This is an example of when selfies go wrong. Bloody mess of a shoot and the blood ran into my eyes one at a time and it burned like hell.
But in the end, I got the shot I was after, despite the mess and burning and extensive clean up. It could have been worse...I had planned to shoot this in my kitchen and opted for in the shower instead for easier clean up and so as not to stain my white carpet with blood.
See the finished result at Mad Hatters today @madhatters
Guess what photo popped up first for me this morning? It's Carrie!!! I read that because the prom scene took several days to film, Sissy Spacek chose to keep the bloody make-up on the entire time because it would've been so difficult to match back up. ICK. As a big horror fan, this is a great way to start my day. Fav, of course.
I agree with the above, Carrie. I also agree with the comments about being super creative. good idea to do this in the shower. Didn't have a local gym to use?
Egad! Lovely to wake up to!! These shots are both fantastic and I thought Carrie immediately. I'm so impressed with the detail and skill you bring to a shot to create a narrative. These are both awesome!
Saw it on FB. Fav! This is great and you went to such effort too! I thought it was the real Carrie poster! and about the shower...well, there is a shower scene in Carrie too...so it was appropriate it. hee hee Did you hear any ghostly voices saying "Plug it up?"
That takes me right back to watching Sissy Spacek play the role of Carrie in 1976, very good, and you can even see it running into your eye....ouch! the things you do for your art, excellent set up and outcome as always.
Oh Amanda, I simply can't get over your devotion to your craft. What is that red stuff in reality? Pls don't tell me pig's blood, or some such. Brilliant execution!
@cejaanderson Thanks, lady. I did a shot of her a few months back (same shower, too). This time, though, I was going for Stephen King's Carrie. I only used the shower to contain the extremely bloody mess. I had thought to do this in my kitchen, but the clean up and carpeting stains would have been a nightmare!!
@bill_fe@happysnap I made the blood, not animals or human luckily. It was edible and I got it online: corn syrup, I used a couple cups, 2 pkgs of cherry Koolaid mix, a teaspoon or so of cocoa power and some water to thin it out. I could also have thickened it if necessary with corn starch. So yummy, but not so great in the eyes!!:)
@maggiemae Nope, just seen by me. I took this in the shower for ease of clean up. We moved to this place in December. By March, our neighbors right next door had their house on the market. They had seen me outside in a pink bunny suit doing selfies. They sold the house fast, but that fell through. The new owners to be probably seen me doing something else crazy, who knows;-). Thanks, Maggiemae!!
@jsw0109 Check out the crap getting into my eye. It hurt like hell, but tasted good. Thanks for the recipe. Next time I do Carrie, I wear a visor;-).
The fact that you even *knew* how to make fake blood is astounding to me! It looks totally authentic and absolutely creepy! What a great movie that was! You rock!
@Weezilou My dear friend, Jeff, a fellow hatter, gave me a recipe...and then I looked it up online. Not too hard surprisingly, but gosh, keep it out of those eyes. Ouchie. Thanks so much for your kind comments!!!
something Jesus-like. those Catholic images where Jesus is covered in blood but otherwise pretty well groomed with a hair not out of place. Great work, the eyes certainly take it to the next level so it was worth it.
@darsphotos Sheesh, I know. Thanks so much for the kind words and faves my friend. Did you see the Hatters verion that I was going for? Did you ever see the movie Carrie?
@chewyteeth Thanks so much, Dave. I am all about taking it to a whole nutha level:). Love your comments...I can see that strangely. I did make sure to make myself look all prom like and groomed prior to dumping the blood. Hubby said I was getting too cute for Carrie, but it was for prom. And I was to be the queen!!
@amandal You are welcome. I have to go to the hatters project and not sure I saw Carrie but this is like freak Halloween movies. You did awesome. Hey, I am missing my zoom but will get used to use the lenses to more up and down. Not much to use in this 18-55 lens.
@annied Molten blood eyes. I've had burst blood vessels before. Once when I got engaged my eye was filled with blood. Looked like a demon or something out of a horror movie. Thanks, Annie. Glad to give you a laugh:).
@bill_fe Here you go again. Maybe the tag was wrong or too close to the other. Hate it when tags go bad. I made the blood, not animals or human luckily.
@bill_fe Of course. You gonna make some? I'm hearing now how I am creeping people out with my gory shot. Whoops. Not like I normally do stuff like this. Gotta keep people on their toes is what I think.
I may make some, right at the moment I don't have a shot in mind. I just got a recipe for bubbles from a co-worker. She gave me some powder her husband uses to make them.A little packet, I'd guess about two ounces. I have to mix that with 28 oz of dish detergent, and 3 GALLONS of water. I'll be forever blowing bubbles!
@bobfoto Yes, tripod. I had a remote in the hand and the other hand dumped the bloody mess and smeared it around. Also needed it it help rinse my poor burning eyes. I've had all sorts of eye issues this summer. You are more hard core than me perhaps? I dono, though, this was messier than soup. Tasted and smelled better, though.

Molten eyes here lol
@paulaw Thanks so much, Paula!!!
