Playing the Blues Picasso Style by alophoto

Playing the Blues Picasso Style

This is my attempt at being more in line with the Picasso painting that I set out to recreate ever so loosely last winter.

Here is Picasso's famous painting and one that my friend, Beau, had told me was one of his favorites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Guitarist

I am neither old, nor a man, but maybe I am old enough and my hair is now short and sticks out all over the place. This morning it is so bad that I had to put on a hat and it is still crazily poking out of that. Grow fast, dear hair.

The old man in the painting's pose was too awkward and difficult for me to pull off and his guitar was smaller, too (or perhaps he was bigger).

Such a selfie heavy week. Hope that is not too annoying.

Spring is coming slowly now...stay tuned for that lovely change! I do love to share the seasons with you!
@losthorizon How did I do this time? Close to the painting yes?

Fantastic portrayal and much nicer subject than the painting has :)
March 26th, 2015
Singing the blues can be a good thing! Beautifully done!
March 26th, 2015
love this but Amanda you must relax about the hair - it grows back and above all it does not define us - I think it suits you so smile - for me - it is a bad week this end :)
March 26th, 2015
Wonderful interpretation, Amanda!
March 26th, 2015
@annied I am not that upset or blue about it. It is just so bad this morning. Noteworthy.
March 26th, 2015
@amandal hahahahahaha we all have bad hair days
March 26th, 2015
@annied Mine unfortunately, tend to be most days of late:). Funny and not all at once.
March 26th, 2015
@amandal I have one bit that never does what the rest does
March 26th, 2015
Great shot and my hair is so annoying too I Wish I could have mine short but with curly hair it is a NO go. So I am constantly straightening it ......
March 26th, 2015
Nice re-creation of the famous painting!
March 26th, 2015
Great backdrop and yes, you are much too young. ;-) nice shot.
March 26th, 2015
Wonderful! Great processing.
March 26th, 2015
Great interpretation, processing...short hair is cool...it just needs to be fine-tuned about every six weeks to keep it under control :)
March 26th, 2015
Pea
Nicely done Amanda!
March 26th, 2015
I like how you've rendered the background. Looks very bluesy. You are way too self conscious about your hair.
March 26th, 2015
Awesome shot
March 26th, 2015
I so admire your adventurous "selfie" side. I sometimes wish I had a bit more of that in me. You're such an inspiration. Glad you're not nearly as contorted as the old man in Picasoo's painting. That dude seriously needs to visit a chiropractor! You do look downright mournful tho. Good acting!
March 26th, 2015
Wonderful presentation, Amanda, great processing. Fav!! πŸ˜ƒ
March 26th, 2015
Nice interpretation.
March 26th, 2015
It conveys the mood perfectly, blues and blue and itΕ› great interpretation of the painting. Terriffic work as always!
March 26th, 2015
wonderfully done.. beautiful
March 26th, 2015
I think you have nicer legs than Picasso's guitarist! :-)
P.S. I really do like your hair short!
March 27th, 2015
@skipt07 Aw, you are very kind. I wish I liked it. I've had short hair and this is maybe not as nice a style. It's just hard to manage and very big. Hope it will settle down and it will grow on me:).
March 27th, 2015
There goes that creative self of yours again! Very fun shot, Amanda. :)
March 27th, 2015
You have a marvelous imagination... another great image!
March 27th, 2015
Wonderful rendition of the painting!!
March 27th, 2015
I immediately saw Picasso in your image -- soooo well done!!
March 27th, 2015
I thought at first you were tuning the guitar!!! Never seen the photo by Picasso, so might be why I didn't catch the similarities? LOL Still, a great selfie!!! FAV!
March 27th, 2015
Such a creative person you are my dear!
March 27th, 2015
Interesting idea and nice lighting.
March 27th, 2015
Pam
Great job! You got the tones, and lighting down perfect. Great expression too. I love the new hair!
March 27th, 2015
Great portrait of you Amanda!! Nice pose and expression. And your hair looks great. Do you play guitar? May we hear some of your music?
March 27th, 2015
Fantastic capture Amanda...Fav
March 27th, 2015
Very artsy interpretation- hey, ur hair looks fine, some people they don't have any.
March 27th, 2015
great interpretation!
March 27th, 2015
Your MUCH prettier than Picasso's guitarist! And your hair is much cuter than his as well!!!!
March 27th, 2015
Beautifully blue. Amazing capture. Love this. You can instantly feel the emotion. Your skills at selfies and creating scenes like this is second to none. Fav.

Sorry took so long to comment, just finished a 90 hour work week. My brain is mush, and wanted a clear head when I viewed it.

Your hair looks great by the way. No worries. :)
March 28th, 2015
Very clever, this is great.
March 28th, 2015
Very good! Wish I could sit cross legged on the floor like that! :-)
March 28th, 2015
@losthorizon You are far too generous in your comments, my friend, but thank you and glad you approved of how I portrayed your favorite painting. I'd love to see your rendition sometime. I could see you doing this with your hat and sunglasses. Please do this sometime...and tag me so I can see. Must think about other art to redo/recreate. I did Christina's World earlier in the year and really loved that. Anything else come to mind off the top of your head? I really really love this piece... https://www.google.com/search?q=art+institute+chicago+dot+painting&espv=2&biw=1680&bih=883&tbm=isch&imgil=StxW6amovBQIiM%253A%253Bt5Zn6tmlke-ZNM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.artic.edu%25252Faic%25252Fcollections%25252Fartwork%25252F27992&source=iu&pf=m&fir=StxW6amovBQIiM%253A%252Ct5Zn6tmlke-ZNM%252C_&usg=__8rgB6_m9m-mgPudtcGhNiDvj1Ig%3D&dpr=1&ved=0CFEQyjc&ei=_acWVajnMcebNu-wgtgC#imgrc=StxW6amovBQIiM%253A%3Bt5Zn6tmlke-ZNM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.artic.edu%252Faic%252Fcollections%252Fciti%252Fimages%252Fstandard%252FWebLarge%252FWebImg_000156%252F8227_1683054.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.artic.edu%252Faic%252Fcollections%252Fartwork%252F27992%3B800%3B538 but it would be a bit of a challenge to redo. Central park modern day on the sailboat pond. STOP MOVING AND ACT NATURAL EVERYONE. PLACES, please:).
March 28th, 2015
@amandal No no no.....your amazing. Accept it! As for art, I've always loved M.C.Escher, but his art is way too complex to capture naturally without editing. I tried once to recreate his piece "Dewdrop" - http://www.mcescher.com/gallery/most-popular/dewdrop/

Here's my version: http://365project.org/losthorizon/365/2012-03-23

That was 3 years ago...phew....how the time flies. Anyway...I'll do some searching.....find another challenge for ya. :)

Like that painting, but I agree, might be hard to reproduce exactly. Lol
March 28th, 2015
This is so well done, Amanda. I love your emotion, the colors and processing. I really like your hair too. Just got mine butchered by my hairdresser, well short for me and short bangs like a little girl. They will grow back too. You just need to wash your hair every morning like I do and you will be fine. FAV
March 29th, 2015
I don't know where you find all your ideas!! Great!
March 29th, 2015
@darsphotos You are so kind. Thank you. We should have a bad hair cut pity party together:).

@cocobella This was an idea from a friend. I want a new painting to recreate. This was modeled after a Picasso work.
March 29th, 2015
@amandal Sounds like a fun party. I just put color on mine as it came out too light last time. Hoping it is not too dark now. What we go through with our hair. lol
March 30th, 2015
Wonderful interpretation of Picasso's painting......you got me looking at the Themes and Challenges to see if I had missed an artist challenge featuring Picasso.....but, noooo, we are still on Grant Wood! Lol...
