Back to Iceland today for my regular Sunday visit. I am enjoying the opportunity provided by the continuing lockdown to revisit my travel photos.
The land is greener and lusher in this relatively sheltered valley of the river Laxá in the north east of the country. Every bit of land, however small, in between the snow-covered mountains and the sedge and the volcanic areas (next Sunday) is used for taking silage in the short warmer season ready for the long winter. Iceland was not always bare of trees and there's some reafforestation occurring in this area. https://www.geographyrealm.com/icelands-long-road-to-reforestation/
For those interested, there is sustained volcanic and earthquake activity happening at the moment near Mt Keilir in Iceland's south west not so far from Reykjavik: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea2bvYhNFT4
