Catbird choreography

I caught this Catbird dancing to the tune of winged insect catching this morning. She paused, close to me, whirling on the way to feed her ravenous nestlings in a nearby bush. Soon after, she returned for a little of the grape jelly treat for herself in that hanging feeder. Busy birds were all around today, House Sparrows and now the House Wrens were all doing the same insect catching for their nestlings. I spied a broken Wren eggshell when I was putting out beef suet for our woodpeckers. Both wrens were in and out of the nest and soon I saw their beaks filled too, going in with insects, or going out with 'avian diaper service' duties.

Watching the ways of the wild things in our back garden is calming in these tumultuous times. I can't think of a better way to start my day. Soon we'll both be doing it together with coffee (and my camera) on our deck in Maine, lulled into the rhythm of the tides, watching our Downeast wildlife.

Isn't it funny to think Catbirds like grape jelly. I also have bark butter balls in one feeder and everything goes crazy for it right about now including the baby starlings I wonder if this works as a food like the bugs. The starlings, blackbirds, blue jays, sparrows, and cardinals all take their turn and clean the feeder out most every day.
