Memorial Day, a day of Remembrance by berelaxed

Memorial Day, a day of Remembrance

An assemblage of photographs remembering my great Uncle Leon killed in action in France near the end of WWI. He died in an aide station at the front with my paternal grandfather, his younger brother, at his side. Leon and Clare served together along with two future brothers in law in the Yankee Division. My dad and my grandfather Clare are in the upper left, marching in their American Legion uniforms to lay wreaths on a Hanover, Massachusetts Memorial day in the 60s.

The elderly gent waving the flag is my great grandfather Lewis, welcoming the Hanover, MA boys home after WW1 with my great grandmother and a great aunt. Lewis served in the Civil War and his relatives before in the Revolutionary War. I have deep roots in this town and a family history of freedom fighters. Now, we must find a more peaceful way to keep the freedoms we all cherish.

For the Record,
This day came in with light drizzle and over cast skies. Probably a blessing, keeping the mask-less, not social distancing fools who are rushing to congregate at beaches and parks somewhat at bay.

We are have a social distancing patio afternoon planned with T's nephew and wife.
Another great collage
