Common Green Darner

The green darner or common green darner (Anax junius), after its resemblance to a darning needle, is a species of dragonfly in the family Aeshnidae. This fellow is a large, strong flier. He and the female both have a large black spot, a "bulls eye" in front of their eyes. The bright green of his thorax is amazing.

T discovered this guy when we were doing some trimming in the yard today. He was resting on our crabapple tree. When she saw him, I rushed in to get my old trusty Nikon with the 300mm lens. I managed 3 shots before he zoomed away. He was large and impressive,

This day came in cooler, cloudy, but still too humid.
