Young turkey portrait

Wild turkey babies are called poults, juvenile males are jakes, and juvenile females are jennies. A group of turkeys is called a rafter or a flock.

The easiest way to determine the turkey's sex is by examining the feathers on the breast and sides of the turkey. On males, these feathers have black tips. The feather tips are brown on females.

This is just a headshot, so Jake or Jennie, I'm not sure. I find them so fascinating, but they are messy pests that haunt us everyday. The glass storm door gives me great access for photos as they look in and beg!

For the Record,
This day came in with a brief moment of sun, then the usual gloom, just warm gloomy air today.

All hands still begging for PEACE
A cool detailed shot

I only have to deal with them running across the road in front of me.
