Mama Oriole after the Spa by berelaxed

Mama Oriole after the Spa

I've had a very happy day, a perfect check-up with my hip surgeon. My replacement looks fully cemented and good for as long as I need it. He recommended a surgeon for a second opinion for my toe issue as well. I can see him again in 5 years, or just go merrily on my way if I don't have any issues with the replacement.

Last Sunday afternoon, while sitting out on the patio taking shots of birds with my 300mm lens, my trusty Nikon D90 took the last frame as the shutter gave up the ghost. It was 13 years old and had performed 148,031 actuations, 48,031 clicks more than the rating for the camera. I have to admit that I cried. Said beloved camera also includes 5 lovely Nikkor lenses. Some are not compatible with newer camera bodies. I knew the day was coming, but that final black curtain falling was sad. What to do? I have a very lovely Leica SL Mirrorless with a huge 24mm-90 lens and two point & shoot Leicas. I didn't want to invest in another fancier new Nikon. Years ago a good friend who is a photographer told me about KEH, a reputable company that sells refurbished cameras. I went on their site and found a bargain grade D90 for $119, guaranteed for 6 months. Long enough to tide me over through bird season and maybe longer.

It arrived today, it looks brand new, mine is quite worn from constant use(thanks to blip). It only has 15,000 actuations, that's about a couple years for me. It works perfectly and took the Oriole photos. To have a back up of the new to me Nikon, I saw today that they have a mint condition one available at KEH for $183. I ordered it. I'm too lazy to learn a new camera and the D90 size is perfect for my hands. A second body will be great for my other lenses, especially my 85mm portrait lens. Both of these cameras come with a battery and charger as well. A day to celebrate.

For the Record,
This day came in cool and windy. We were close to a frost last night.

All hands happy
Change is difficult. I'm glad you found something you like.

@corinnec The Leica SL is amazing. I have it because I splurged after my brother and I sold our parents’s house. I love it, but the 24-90 mm lens that is like having 6 prime lenses in one is really, really heavy.
