Birthday cupcakes for our friend Mary, my former teaching partner and friend of 50 years this September. She and her daughter Katie borrowed our kayak for a paddle in Plymouth Harbor. They returned the kayak tonight and brought lobster rolls and watermelon. We had the first outside dinner of the season with great conversation and laughs. Katie has just returned from an amazing trip, Spain, Israel, India, Tibet and Nepal. She actually had an audience with the Dali Lama. I've known her since she was a baby. She is now an amazingly brave young woman, former Peace Corp volunteer and now an elementary school teacher. Mary and John have raised three wonderful children. Nothing like old friends who are like family.
