Not well focused ,but taken through the bedroom window & cropped !!

I hear they can be quite the chatter box too

Why are they such a hated Bird, I wonder? What harm are they doing to human kind, and then, what harm are humans doing to the Magpie?

Wonderful birds. They'll clean up a pile of carrion before you hardly know it was there. Good enough to put them on my personal "good guy list".
Ian Tyson has a great song about magpies. You could probably find it on line

I think they are known as 'Thieving magpies' and there is a the rhyme about them. "One for sorrow, two for joy" etc...
We seem to get quite a few in our garden. I love watching them take off. Nice capture.

they are clever birds, and i just read that they can recognize themselves in a "mirror test" - just how does one determine that??!!

Great magpie capture. They can be very aggressive to other birds but I suppose they are just doing what nature intends them to do

@kdimagery K d yes they are !! but fortunately they do not land in my garden I suppose its not open enough !!
May 9th, 2013
They are very clever, and seem to know you are taking an interest in them, so that's the time they fly off, and they hunt down all the eggs and chicks in a garden. Nice shot though.

@markp Thanks Mark , I agree clever but not a lovable character
