Alfie has been most peculiar since my return home-- he did not jump all over me but came and sat by my side to be stroked before going to his bed behind my chair -- and has hardly moved unless I move !!
Aww, what a sweetie he is. I'm sure animals know when you are unwell or sad and they are extra gentle with you! And that's a lovely portrait of him too, Beryl.

Thank you all --he is certainly keeping me company & in his own way looking after me Lovely for both of us that I am back home again & my son has come up trumps in caring for me --chief cook & bottle washer etc
Good old Alfie he is being very gentle with you Beryl, he has such a sweet face. He must have missed you very much when you were away. Good for family where would we be without them?

Thank you all so much , it's amazing how our animal friends seem to understand our needs --Alfie is usually a rough & tumble little boy -but his gentleness is so appreciated !!!!
I think your comments abuot Alfie prove what great empathy dogs have, beyond anything we credit them with. A friend of ours came to our house for the first time after her husband had died. Jinks had never ever sat on her lap or near her but he almost immediately went and sat beside her and then on her lap and did not leave her all the time she was here.
@quietpurplehaze Hazel I didn't realize I had not acknowledged this before -- as you do I also believe dog have great empathy & understand through smell & hearing a great deal more than they are credited for ! Thank you Hazel
Yes, I've also realized that they work a lot on our body language too. Jinks also somehow knows when we are expecting company and is unsettled, running to the front door and back and sometimes crying or barking. The start of the behaviour can coincide with the time the guest have left their own home. Spooky!
Now, you should be in bed, getting some rest!
