The Welsh Poppy -- Meconoposis Cambrica is a perennial plant in the Poppy family . It has yellow to orange flowers and is widely grown as a garden plant
It is one of the national flowers of Wales Carl Linnaeus named it after the Welsh -- Papaver Cambrica in 1753.-- Cambria being the Latin Name for Wales ( Cymru in Welsh ) Later in 1814 the yellow poppy was reclassified differently as a new species Meconopsis Cambrica by Lois Vigueir .
The Welsh Poppy has been used since 2006as the basis for a logo for the Welsh National political party "Plaid Cymru "
