This is the McKay Avenue School in Edmonton. It was opened in 1904. It was Edmonton's first brick school built in the city. It is named after Dr. William McKay . When Alberta became a province the first two sittiings of the Legislature were held on the top floor of theschool in 1906 and 1907.
Of interest is the fact that when the school opened the stone name plate had the good doctor's name wrong. His name is MacKay but on the stone it is spelt McKay.
Today it is used for the Edmonton Public School Board Museum. On the grounds is also a one room wood school house that was built in 1881 and is part of the museum. I will have to post a picture of that one on another day
