Well we are back down in the rotunda and now if you will look up, way up you will see inside the dome of our building. Yes those are palms trees up there. In 1932 the state of California gave these trees to Alberta as a gift. Yes they are real and maintenance workers have to keep them watered and look after them on a regular basis.
We used to be able to go up to see them on the tour but now the stairs leading up to them are quite old and they happen to be wooden and very narrow and steep. So for safety reasons access to them is restricted
So we will have to enjoy this view of them.
Tomorrow will end our tour and we will exit the main doors so that will give you a glimpse at the main entrance which is always worth a glimpse
Lovely shot! I like your perspective and how you captured the lights and color. I hope they'll fix the stairs at some point- it would be fun to wander around and see the palm trees up close. I've really enjoyed this tour!
Super shot of the dome ceiling! Too bad you do not have access to the stairs to view the palms...how do they receive light..are there dome windows above them?
@ladydi53 I do wish they would fix the stairs, maybe some day. As for the light, There are windows around the dome. If you would like a closer look at the dome check out my picture from Aug. 4,2011
Beautiful shot looking up. I wonder why California gave these palm trees to Alberta. I live in California and may check it out. Love palm trees so much. Glad they are being cared for as they look great.
@bruni Between the heat and the light through the windows they do quite well. I do wish they would repair the stairs leading up there so this could be put back on tour
