This train was across from our hotel in Calgary. It is Canadian Pacific Engine 29. It was built in 1887 at the CPR shops in Montreal. It cost around $7000 to build. At the turn of the century it was operating in our nation's capitol of Ottawa. During the first World War it was used in Quebec where it remained for many years before going out to New Brunswick in the maritimes.
In 1987 it was being used for special excursions to celebrate its 100th birthday. It was taken out of use in 1989. In 1994 a fire broke out in the storage facility where it was being kept and it was severely damaged. It was taken to the Weston Shops in Winnipeg where it was restored and in 1996 it was brought to Calgary to sit outside the Canadian Pacific Headquarters
Amazing pov ...and love the background of this too. That engine has a wonderful history. Am happy to hear that it was restored and now sits on display.
Beautiful shot of this train. We have a similar train disply I will have to shoot some day. Thanks for including the history with this shot - adds to the interest. I also love the reflection in the building behind the train.
Great description of the history of this remarkable engine. They don't build them like they used to. This is a work of art, nicely restored. Thank you for sharing. :)
