Demolition Days

A while back I noticed a crane at one of the older buildings on Jasper Avenue. When I drove by I discovered that it was the old Pendennis Hotel. Today I did some further exploring and saw that they have demolished most of the building. It appears that they are keeping the original façade. I am not sure what is going up in its place. I always find it sad when they do this. The hotel was built in 1904. It had been sitting empty for some time now. I guess I will just have to wait and see what is going up
Great capture Brian, it will be interesting to watch the development of that site. It is a shame that these old structures become unsustainable.

Very good but not so nice to see the old going out.
July 24th, 2013
Great progression shot..hopefully, the new is nicer than the older one?
July 24th, 2013
Nice, interesting, changing city shot!
July 24th, 2013
I like it....
July 24th, 2013
Nice shot! Always hate to see grand old buildings go.
July 24th, 2013
You have captured it well indeed. I guess it's called progress... or at least change.
July 24th, 2013
what a cool shot!
July 24th, 2013
Very interesting shot. It is sad to see old buildings come down but I guess we have to make room for the new. There is always change.
July 24th, 2013
It's nice that they're keeping some of the original. I guess everything has its time but hopefully it'll be a nod to what's been there previously - Lucy
July 24th, 2013
you captured the bulding work well, and changes you can't stopthem
July 24th, 2013
Not all that`s old is worth to be saved. Only if it is a beautiful architecture and exceptional and rare, After WW2 we have build the most ugly buildings . Cheap , without any soul. Gladly they demolished those now.
July 24th, 2013
I like the fact they are keeping the facade, will be interesting to see what you end up with on the site.
July 24th, 2013
Glad you got this shot before it is gone.
July 24th, 2013
How nice that your camera helps you explore so many places!
July 24th, 2013
C'est triste de voir certains batiments disparaitre.
July 24th, 2013
Fascinating capture! I like how the image either tells a story or asks a question.
July 24th, 2013
Very 'behind the scenes' view. You should definitely follow up on this and repost when it is updated. Curious to see.
July 25th, 2013
Hopefully they will do something in keeping with the original facade.
July 25th, 2013
You never know why they take them down except it sounds like maybe the inside had to be condemned. Well, we'll look forward to seeing what goes up.
July 25th, 2013
After visiting Oxford with buildings that are hundreds of years old, it is sad to see how readily we tear things down in North America.
July 25th, 2013
@mcmary It is certainly changing. I sometimes have trouble with these changes
July 25th, 2013
@sarasdadandmom Glad you like this one
July 25th, 2013
@c17ehse I am glad I do have a picture of it before this happened
July 25th, 2013
@sbolden Definitely a change
July 25th, 2013
@jessca646 Thanks Jessica

July 25th, 2013
@fishers It will be interesting to see what they build
July 25th, 2013
@tstb I can not stop it but I still do not like it
July 25th, 2013
@pyrrhula I do agree that not all should be saved but sometimes I think over here we tear some down to easy
July 25th, 2013
@paulaw I will be watching its progress
July 25th, 2013
@janets I also have a shot of it when it was still in use
July 25th, 2013
@danette So nice to have a zoom lens
July 25th, 2013
@montse Oui, il est
July 25th, 2013

July 25th, 2013
@archaeofrog I will definitely do that
July 25th, 2013
@lynnb I do hope that as well
July 25th, 2013
@olivetreeann It is possible that the inside could not be saved. Will be watching to see what goes up
July 25th, 2013
@allie912 Exactly
July 25th, 2013
@tonydebont Yes it is very sad when this happens

@kerristephens Thanks Kerri

@carwyn3 Not nice at all
July 25th, 2013
@nanderson Somehow I am not sure that it will be
July 25th, 2013
Interesting photo, at least it is coming back into use.
July 25th, 2013
Like the pov in this shot
July 25th, 2013
It is too bad that they remove so many old buildings and build something else. I guess it is too expensive to renovate or maybe with technology and other factors today it is cheaper to rebuild. Wonderful photo, Brian.
July 26th, 2013
@ivan I do hope that whatever they are building will be nice and useful
July 26th, 2013
@khirsch Glad you like it Karin
July 26th, 2013
excellent capture, brian. you probably should make a day as "hotel pendennis" day every week or every two weeks to show us what is happening. now, that's a challenge! :-)
July 29th, 2013
@summerfield I will get back there but this one has been a slow process. I did find out that the property has been purchased by the Ukrainian Canadian Archive Musem
July 30th, 2013
Well, at least they kept the facade. I find it sad, too, but I know that some buildings are just too far gone. I like the way you've captured the scene with the derrick on the side.
August 4th, 2013
@eudora I took a shot from the front but it had scaffolding and so this one showed things off better
