This house was built in 1910 by Alberta's first Premier. Alexander Rutherford. It is located on the University of Alberta campus. This was due to the fact that he was instrumental in establishing the University which opened in 1908.
Rutherford had a large personal library in his home that he allowed students to come and study from until the university established its own library.
After Rutherford passed away his house was used as a fraternity house. In 1968 when the university was expanding the house was slated for demolition until Rutherford's son Cecil stepped in and convinced school authorities that the house should be preserved and converted into a museum
That's some pretty cool history. I am glad they kept it; I like the contrast of the architectural structures together... Remembering the past while moving toward the future!
