I put them on the floor with dark furniture behind, and set the exposure to the brightest parts as the low sun came into my living room in streaks - albeit very briefly!
that's what i did with yesterday's photo - place the vase on my dining chair, which is black leather =) this shot makes me smile. the contrast between the colors of the flowers and the dark background is fantastic.
