Outside the Kelham Island Museum, the information boards have real scissors embedded in their frames. A reminder that Sheffield, famous for its steel, was also the home of the UK scissors industry. Apparently there are still two companies based in Sheffield making scissors.
My first day working in Sheffield since at least 2019 I suspect, a chance to meet face to face with my Sheffield-based member of staff and my boss.
A rushed start as with the house full, everyone seemed to want to use the loo at the unearthly time of 6 for some reason. Meant I didn't get out in time to grab my traditional Starbucks tea and cheese and mushroom croissant. Desperately tried to grab something from the outlets by the platform, but gave up as time ticked on. And good thing, as my train was at the far end of the platform in front of another train. And of course, on a 2 hour 15 min journey, no refreshments on the train. All so very frazzling and irritating. Cleared my emails on the train.
Picked up tea and a pain au chocolat at Albie's where Jess met me before heading into work. Face to face monthly catch-up with James was a nice change from Teams. Lunch at the Fat Cat in the Kelham Island heritage area by a cosy fire - lots of building work going on around.
Hard to return to the office, but we did where I sorted out H's maternity leave admin. Left at 4 to get the train home. Very busy and the reservations weren't marked, but found a seat to chill for the 2 hours.
1. A yummy aubergine pie with mashed peas, wedges and oodles of gravy and a half of a Kelham Island brew of some sort came to about £7.
2. Found a box of minty chocs in M&S at St Pancras just in time for our advent calendar.
3. Finished off series 2 of His Dark Materials in advance of series 3 starting later this month.
I must say that I didn't notice the scissors when we last visited Kelham Island, but then we were arriving in a vintage bus for a wedding reception there! An intriguing shot - well spotted.
