Are you sitting comfortably? by busylady

Are you sitting comfortably?

.....then I'll begin. I'm probably showing my age but I remember sitting at my Mother's knee listening to Listen with Mother while she had a rest after dinner - as we called it then - not lunch as we call it now. This poster caught my eye in Cambridge today, and I thought that anyone sitting in this basket probably wouldn't be sitting very comfortably!
Very funny shot. I enjoyed your back story too.

me too! And what a special time of day it was! I can still remember the tune at the beginning...or was it the end? - found it on one of Evelyn Glennie's albums a few years ago and what a big moment that was!

Yes I remember Listen with Mother. The music always used to make me feel sad though! Nice shot Judith

Well spotted, Judith! And I remember those programmes too. I don't recall having a rest after dinner myself, though, when my own children were small.

Ah Listen with Mother how old fashioned that sounds but I also remember it well. Radio was the thing then ...no TV of course. Love your row of bikes & the magnificent baskets which seem to be a feature of Cambridge bikes.

Oh I remember it very well - sitting on my grandmother's knee. She had severe arthritis and was in a wheelchair and there was always a bit of friction as my mum said she shouldn't put me on her knee and my grandma said she should. She died when I was 3 at most and I can't remember her face at all but I can remember sitting on her knee listening to that song about the birds sitting under the eaves in the freezing cold (something about a robin? - the woman was terribly posh). And I can very clearly remember the smell of beef stew and mash potato for dinner (lunch!) which my grandad would produce and the smell was incredible - I think he used to cook it for about three days! Great spot with the poster!

Lovely shot of a typical Cambridge scene! - and thank you for the reminder of Listen With Mother. It's something I hadn't thought about for a long time, but your reminder brought back great memories of childhood!

Really neat shot. It's cool seeing the bicycles and the papers and then the gorgeous building in the back. Great shot!
