Yes we went to the top of the Shard today, the tallest building in London. Actually it's the tallest habitable structure in western Europe, at 309.6 metres. This is taken from the 72nd floor! It's incredible. I took so many pictures it was hard to choose just one, so no doubt I'll have to share some more with you later in the week. This was a Christmas present from our son and we've been waiting for a good clear day - today was perfect as the sun shone the whole day.
a great shot of a great view. (spoiled only by the nasty brown colour of the Thames!) I went up on the eye a couple of years ago, and that was good even from that height, and I'm not good with heights! Post some more!
Fabulous shot, hubby and I are going up the Shard on the 9th August, our girls booked it for father's day present but due to work commitments with hubby and hols that was the best date., really looking forward to it, but may feel a bit queasy after seeing this :) but hopefully I will get some great shots.
Wobbly legs looking at this...I believe the tours are booked up well ahead! I don't think the Shard is as pretty as the Gerkin but certainly a great view!!
@happypat No it's not all booked up at all. We had vouchers but we only arranged the time to visit last night. I gather it's cheaper to book ahead and online though. Our time was booked for 12'30 but we got there early and there was no problem with going up early. There's no tour - just a lift to the top and you can stay as long as you like and it wasn't too busy.
@timandelke Well I'm not keen on looking over the edge of high cliffs, bridges, towers etc but this felt totally safe as there was no possibility of falling.
@judithg Well I thought at first that it was and I asked others up there, but they all said no. There were some moving cables though which made it seem like it was moving. Apparently it's designed to move a small amount.
A fabulous shot! I can see why some people feel dizzy looking at it - you appear to be in front of an open space with nothing to stop you falling out - but I'm sure that is not the case.
