View from the top!

Yes we went to the top of the Shard today, the tallest building in London. Actually it's the tallest habitable structure in western Europe, at 309.6 metres. This is taken from the 72nd floor! It's incredible. I took so many pictures it was hard to choose just one, so no doubt I'll have to share some more with you later in the week. This was a Christmas present from our son and we've been waiting for a good clear day - today was perfect as the sun shone the whole day.
Wow. A fantastic capture. Fav

a great shot of a great view. (spoiled only by the nasty brown colour of the Thames!) I went up on the eye a couple of years ago, and that was good even from that height, and I'm not good with heights! Post some more!

@spookydirt Thanks, no problem - some more tomorrow! The lift was a doddle, but sadly you couldn't see out!

Wow that's high. Might make me feel a bit weird. Wonderful birds eye view.

Waw - what a sight. Great capture. When I was in London last year only half of the Shard was visible because of fog. You had perfect weather.

Wobbly legs looking at this...I believe the tours are booked up well ahead! I don't think the Shard is as pretty as the Gerkin but certainly a great view!!

I got dizzy looking at this ~ fabulous view

@happypat No it's not all booked up at all. We had vouchers but we only arranged the time to visit last night. I gather it's cheaper to book ahead and online though. Our time was booked for 12'30 but we got there early and there was no problem with going up early. There's no tour - just a lift to the top and you can stay as long as you like and it wasn't too busy.

@busylady That's good to know Judith thanks.

I love the POV in this shot and how the window frames serve as leading lines. Terrific and I look forward to more!

Wow! Don't think I could get my hubby out of the elevator!

@timandelke Well I'm not keen on looking over the edge of high cliffs, bridges, towers etc but this felt totally safe as there was no possibility of falling.

Wonderful shot. I didn't know you could go to the top. Have to do that on my next trip.

Amazing capture - makes my tummy go funny (not good with heights)!!

Awesome!

I'd love to go up there - was it moving?
June 4th, 2013
@judithg Well I thought at first that it was and I asked others up there, but they all said no. There were some moving cables though which made it seem like it was moving. Apparently it's designed to move a small amount.

A fabulous shot! I can see why some people feel dizzy looking at it - you appear to be in front of an open space with nothing to stop you falling out - but I'm sure that is not the case.
