This lovely building in Northampton has recently opened to the public after a major refurbishment costing £7 milllion. Originally on this site was the medieval nunnery of Mary de la Pre, but due to the dissolution of the monasteries during the reign of Henry VIII this ceased to exist. Over the years it was owned by the Tates and then most recently by the Bouverie family and turned into a grand country home. Very few of the original furnishings or artefacts remain but the Victorian rooms have been tastefully furnished and everything is available for the visitor to touch and enjoy - including the large collection of books and the piano.
