We visited the Jane Austen house museum in Chawton recently. It tells a fascinating story of how the family lived. The house where she lived with her mother and sister was owned by her brother Edward who inherited several properties from a childless couple who were friends of the family. They lived here from 1809 for 8 years and almost all of her published books were written here. The coverlet top centre was made by Jane herself and contains over 3,000 diamonds. The two embroidered squares are from a community quilt made in 2017 to mark the bicentennial of Jane's death. Both this and the 'Admiral's quilt' were made by quilters and Jane Austen society members from around the world. The nearby St. Nicholas church is on the site of the church where the family worshipped and where the her mother and sister are buried.
