This very special pewter beer holder and cups were given to us by a very dear friend in Germany in the 1970's. It had been presented to her husband, Andreas Stihl on the occasion of his 75th birthday by his company. Andreas was the inventor of the now famous Stihl chainsaw, and owned the factory near Stuttgart where the chainsaws were made. His patent on the chainsaw ran until the end of the second world war when all patents held in Germany were lost as part of the reparations.
Stihl chainsaws are still considered to be the best in the world. We were very privileged to know the family.
Thank you all so much for your very helpful comments on how to take a better black and white photo. I think I had got too hung up on trying to achieve a still life effect.
A delightful piece of history and I love the tankard and cups - what lovely present from your friend ! So nicely displayed and captured - they have worked so well in b/w with the light highlighting the silver bands ! fav
This is a much better image Judith. The light and detail are better than yesterday, though I think a little more contrast and light would bring out the detail more. I like this resuly though.
