The ferryman's hut

This tiny museum in Alnmouth is said to be one of the smallest in the country. It was used until the 1960's to give shelter to the ferryman who charged threepence for a trip across the river at high tide but less at low tide! The museum depicts the story of the great storm on Christmas Day, 1806. The storm was so fierce that it caused the river to change course, thus cutting off the town church on the other side. The church was eventually destroyed and the site is now marked by a cross on the hill where the church once stood.
So interesting. What a quaint little hut.

Delightful little hut, interesting info too. The mention of the word ferryman, had me thinking of the Chris De Burgh song, Don’t pay the Ferryman.
