The original church on this site was begun in 1450, but was badly damaged during WW ll. Re-building began soon after the end of the war and took over 20 years to complete. Today the church is used as a museum dedicated to the war and has only occasional services. A fascinating building with a lift-accessible tower, carillon and crypt.
Very interesting and good to know if I'm ever back in NL! I believe my grandfather spent some time in Arnhem during the war, but I've never visited that part of the country. This is a lovely shot.
The biggest chance was : The church belonged to the Roman Catholic Church until the iconoclasm , which took place in Arnhem in 1578-1579 . All the decorations where destroyed and removed.
