Before Cell Phones

This is an old Northern Electric Crank Telephone, dating from probably the early 1930's. Turn the crank, connect to the operator, tell her the name and number of the person you wish to reach and she would connect your call via a switchboard. (We've all seen the old movies, right?) Kids today would be aghast. "You mean you can't text on it!!!"

Cool image. We’ve come a long ways in communication technology. I remember years ago being on a party line. You never really knew how many other parties were listening in on your conversation.

Ahh, nostalgia! I still remember getting our first phone made of green Bakelite and it lived in the hall.
