Vortex

I have so much to show from our trip but had to share this one. This is the "vortex" of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. And believe me all we could afford was the tour. Stephen King stayed here and came up with the idea for his novel "The Shining." He named his hotel The Overlook. But a lot of the "energy" is supposed to happen here and watches go crazy and cameras mess up. Judge for yourself! I am not a believer in ghosts or goblins or things that go bump in the night. But I did enjoy the tour of the place.
Beautifully kept staircase! Looks lovely ... not scary at all! haha

My husband was in Denver for work and did the ghost tour. Beautiful place, he said the ghost people took it all way too seriously though.

Fab POV! The Shining was one of the scariest books I've ever read, as was the movie.

This makes me dizzy! Which is COOL! It's like I am there, looking over. I love The Shining. Read the book in high school (or Jr high?) and then saw the Stanley Kubrick movie with Jack Nicholson...and then the several part-er movie made for TV. They are both good ...Kubrick's is more of a work of art and so moody and creepy. But doesn't follow the story that closely. The TV one does. So, both good! That is cool you got to see where King was inspired to create one of the best ghost stories of all time. In my opinion.

@espyetta I loved the book - his early work is epic.
They said he had little say in the movie but bought the rights back and had the mini series filmed at the Stanley

@cdonohoue Oh really? They filmed the TV movie at this hotel where you were? That is cool. I have always said that S. King can write such interesting characters and even when he hit times when his plots were not good, or the stories were just too "out there" I still kept reading....because he has such a way with words and characters. I loved his short story that they created the movie Shawshank Redemption from...and The Green Mile. He put that out as a 1950s "serial novel" so you bought chunks of the book and then had to wait for the next part. Then later, they published it all in one book. I loved The Running Man (movie ruined this story totally), and the Longest Mile. And Secret Window, Secret Garden, which also was made into a movie with Johnny Depp of all people. And of his latest books, Under the Dome is not bad...and I LOVED 11-22-63 about what if someone figured out how to time travel back and stop the JFK assassination. Did you read that one? It doesn't sound good, but it was and it got you thinking!

@espyetta I've read them all. I just love his way with dialogue. I was reading The Stand on a wet, gray afternoon, glanced out the window and there wasn't a soul in sight - eerie. He is one of my all time favorites, I just like the early work better than the latter. Maybe he wrote better when he was still high. My son the writer also grew up reading the King books and I think they influenced Andy's way with dialogue.

@cdonohoue I listened to a book called Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill and later found out he is King's son! How could I not have known he had a son? It was an okay book. I got 29th Century Ghosts by Hill after I learned who he was. It was short stories and very gross comic book type horror. Did not like some of them too much, but like his dad, he wrote well and kept me reading.
