I learned something new recently. I've taken various photos of bougainvilleas before but never knew what the colorful part of the plant was called. Is it a petal or is it a leaf? Found out it's neither. It's a bract as a matter of fact! :)
Bracts are generally tougher than both petals and leaves. Plants with brightly colored bracts, like bougainvilleas, serve to protect the flower that grows in the center of the bract and attract pollinating insects. Love learning new things about subjects I've photographed many times before. :)
