(Day 100) - Bears of Big Bear

You think with a name like Big Bear, this city would be crawling with bears. Sadly, though, there are only a few bears left. Black Bears were imported from Yosemite and introduced to Big Bear when the Grizzly Bear was hunted to extinction in the early 1900's but there still aren't as many as in the past.

However, we went to Big Bear Moonridge Animal Park Zoo, an Animal Rescue Park. They have rescued and rehabilitated critters from all over, including grizzly bears! Maybe one day many more bears will thrive in the city that bears their name. ◕‿◕

UPDATE: After doing some recent research and thanks to protection, the black bears numbers are steadily going up. Yay! ◠‿◠
Great capture!!

It's impressive you are so close! And always hard to read about animals disappearing in numbers -- black bears are cute and you've captured them well.
