Today I created another video game pop icon out of candy...Mario! Like digital photographs, video games contain pixels and these pixels were more defined in video games in the 80s and early 90s due to hardware limitations. Therefore it was very easy to make this image of Mario using the basics of pixels.
Due to those hardware limitations, Mario's Japanese creator gave him red overalls and a blue shirt to help him contrast against the background. A red cap was added because he didn't like to draw hair. To make him appear human onscreen despite his small size, Mario was given distinct features, such as a large nose and a mustache, which avoided the need to draw a mouth and facial expressions.
Mario has all those features and more in mondern games but his retro design will always be a sweet classic! :D
I would say you really know your video games! I love that you have built this guy out of candy! It's hard to see in this picture but in the thumbprint it's perfect to see him! Well done, Chris!
WAY BACK, some younger friends of mine (much younger!) tried to show me how to play the Mario game. Let's just say Mario had seen better days by the time I was done with him! At one point one of the boys looked at me and said, "Boy Miss Ann you really stink at this!" Out of the mouths of babes... I don't think I'd have a problem with this Mario though. (o:
Oh this is awesome Chris!!! I soon as I saw it I thought you did so great creating him - wonderful information about its creation too, good thinking on the creator's part about the mustache!
