Underbelly

Walking alongsde a sun-dappled tree-lined stream, I saw this Madagascar Golden Orb spider just lurking there over the water, waiting for an unsuspecting prey while watching the world - and me - go by. I found it interesting to see the creature’s underbelly so clearly.

One of the poor thing’s legs seems to be missing a significant part.

Yes - I felt sorry for the spider. All sorts of hazards like falling twigs, got stuck under a stone - maybe even a bird took a nip?
