Mike in the Graffiti by darylo

Mike in the Graffiti

Our second day on our trip, we decided to drive to all the locations in Asheville we would not be able to reach on foot from our hotel, so once we checked in, we'd be using our feet to walk the city. On the outskirts of town is a huge artist-in-residence complex called the Arts District, which is connected by about six huge industrial complex buildings with artists on display where they actually do their work! In addition to the artistts' work, there is an outdoor flea market, food trucks, and a local brewery (The Wedge). North Carolina, unlike my state of Georgia, DOES have a mask mandate in place and everyone wears their masks (and not below the nose or mouth), and we all used handsanitizer, and then numbers of people in a complex were all very controlled. Ordering food was easy, and there were tons of outdoor tables to choose from to keep everyone safe.

It was REFRESHING to say the least as we were a little nervous about going somewhere too soon, but both being vaccinated and mask wearers ourselves, we really got to enjoy being outdoors and seeing amazing graffiti buildings like this one! I loved the reflection. I don't think I remembered to get this shot without my husband in it. I'm going to have to look again as I only loaded what I plan on editing. I'm falling behind in the project again, and I really want to make a post every day, but not with lots of old photos as I have in the past.

I just got home last night, so the editing begins and it will continue.

Oh, one more cool think about taking this shot: the frogs were singing beside the water. It was surreal to say the least!
If you had not pointed out the fact that he was in there, I never would’ve seen him. Blended right in. Neat shot!

I’m not normally a fan of graffiti but this really is a work of art! Love the reflection and your husband hidden in the shot is perfect! Your trip sounds great- it’s good to hear people are being careful- so reassuring!

I'm a huge fan of graffiti (done legally) so this place sounds like heaven to me. And (unlike TN and GA) it is wonderful to get out and about somewhere safe. I look forward to more photos! This is a fav for me.

@linnypinny I am a huge fan of graffiti too. The entire complex of buildings is graffitied to the 9's. You would like this River Arts District I believe. So many great artists in residence too, so you get to talk to them about their work. It really is amazing to see the campaigns in NC where the mandate has consistent messaging, and everyone just knows what to do. I imagine that workers also really appreciate the public's cooperation as they were really good keeping their masks on properly, and Mike and I only removed them to eat. We entered, ordered, paid, and finished meal sitting at table with masks on. It was like living in a totally different country, to be honest. I'm going to write my governor about it, not that he'll read what I have to say, but it was so nice to see all these establishments open and everyone working together!

I think I would have missed him if you haven’t mentioned it! It’s a fabulous photo with all those colors and Mike blends in so well. I especially love the reflections and wish I could have heard the frogs!
