Slight progress! The tip is opening ever so slightly. Because of the slow progress on this one, I used the background (and bokeh) to accent it more as a macro shot. Lighting changes everything, and this experiment has taught me to rely on Manual functions as much as possible to create the effects I would like. I did take the same shot in Auto, but the background (and the subject) appeared too light without any real tonal differences. This is why I think it is worth the effort to explore your options more in manual if you have the time. I find my processing time is cut in half because I'm near what I want in the first place.
For those who want to know, I did push up the clarity in processing as well as reduce the highlights as I could not correct everything with manual (I'm sure I could have, but...). I wanted a faster shutter (it was windy), and a more open aperture because the light was just so low. I used ISO 400 too.
Cold, miserable day this morning, but I do hope there is promise of spring like weather on the way.

For the progress of this bud from week one, simply hit the monthly view of my page. And all the research on this bud is in week one (same day of week).
@homeschoolmom haha, the bokeh is about the only change, except that teeny tiny opening. A great project that may just have to go into April. Although I was hoping to do an abstract April. :)
Nice! I am sure that you will blink and it will burst forth before you can capture it! It is fun to see your camera settings process and thinking "this time last year you would have probably just set the aperture and let the camera do the rest." instead.
@steampowered so true. I like looking back! This ( http://365project.org/darylo/365/2013-03-14) was my very first manual shoot and I remember that day so clearly and the excitement!!! And you were first to comment. I've learned so much from you.
This little one is taking its time this spring -- must be aware that popping in the current weather is not much fun! I loved reading about your thinking and how manual provided you with the means to convey what you had in your mind's eye. This is a gorgeous shot, in and of itself.
Of course, the composition is so pretty. I like the slight opening of the bud, giving promise of a future. I also like the white accents within the bud.
@taffy so true! And then the Bradford Pear just forges on, but I'll be glad when those blooms move onto leaves since they stink up the air. :) Thanks for visiting so many shots today. I'm trying to get back in the commenting loop, but then I had to go buy new jeans today and that took forever. I mean FOREVER. Ugh. :)
@darylo Better to be buying new jeans that (a) sitting in presentations and (b) doing annual review of productivity. That's why I've been commenting -- stuck at computer and desperately needing breaks. So thank you for giving me many to comment on since I was so far behind!! PS decided to edit out purpose of the meetings!
nice to see that little bit of progress. it will probably suddenly ping into life shortly and there'll be noticeable differences daily. lovely dof and clarity in the opening bud
