Rotorua is where we stayed for the woodchopping competition (see 25th January). We tented in a camping ground - my favourite - the ground is warm because of nearby thermal activity (like sleeping with the electric blanket on!) The city of Rotorua is located in the middle of a thermal area - smells like boiled eggs and has steam, boiling mud and boiling water emerging all over the place. The collage is from a reserve and you can see (from the top left photo) that most areas are fenced off - hence the sign.
We were in Rotorua a couple of years ago as part of a golfing trip and I well remember the smell! There are some incredible colours and sights to be seen though.
Dianne you found the mud pool where I took one of my earlier photos. Love the collage. The signs unfortunately do not stop some idiots from falling into hot pools. Let me know next time you visit and we can compare notes
Rotorua! I'll bet you were in the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley -- your photo collage is so descriptive. I'll never forget it . . . I spent a week in the area this past July. My favorite capture while there: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-07-20
