NZ native pigeon

I had a great day today with @julzmaioro and @rustymonkey at Tiritiri Matangi Island, about one hour by ferry from downtown Auckland. This island is an open sanctuary and is predator free. It has been replanted in native trees. Lots of birds have self colonised, while other species have been introduced. This native pigeon was happy to pose for us.
He was well feed on the berries and was just too lazy to move... great shot..

Yep - an important bird in NZ for spreading the large seed from the native trees.

Great shot, so sharp, I think he was a bit drunk. Thanks for organising such a fantastic day.

What impressive colors this handsome pigeon is adorned with. It's wonderful there's a predator-free place for him to reside.

What a pretty pigeon. He's really lucky not to have predators but it makes you wonder if there may end up with an overcrowded sanctuary. I would love to go there.
