I love Judith's @judithg 'Blue Monday' and it got me thinking how just one person in the right place at the right time, can complete a shot. A scene was pretty or interesting to start off with, but waiting for someone to step into it can turn an OK picture into a WOW picture.
Show me your "Solitary Stranger" shots. (To post them, go to your picture and copy the text in the 'Share' box on the right, then paste it here.)
Here's Judith's 'Blue Monday' and the one below it is my own.
I never actually noticed the man standing down toward the bottom right of this shot until @janmaki pointed him out. But now I really like him in the shot. It's actually my fave part of the shot.
I always go back to this photo. It's old, from 2007. We were visiting my hubby's family in Westerndorf, Austria, and somehow this man stopped and turned around when I took this photo. I think he totally makes the pic better though. When I read Nadine's discussion, I thought of this photo right away. Ordinarily I try not to post old photos, but this one suited this discussion so well
@5unflow3r He definitely makes the shot - he adds depth and scale and I like that he's facing out of the frame. If only these people knew what a gift they gave us!
I seem to have two people in many of my shots (maybe that's the next thread!) - but this one is a genuine solitary stranger - and this shot makes me feel warmer!
I just joined here a couple days ago, so I do not have a picture to add. However, I loved seeing all of your photos and am going to look for a shot with my 'solitary stranger' in it :)!
These are such great photos! I usually have people jumping into my shots while I politely wait for them to move on. Maybe I need to just take their photo, regardless.
@rich57 I think it's safe to say you've mastered the art of this! All your street shots are always so perfectly composed and capture a moment in time that's unforced and 'honest'. Love your work!
@deens Thanks for starting this wonderful thread. I've really enjoyed the incredible shots. I rarely take photos with people in them, but these photos have inspired me to start.
My stranger in this pic is quite far... I was shooting the dock and this man just walked in there... I got more nice pics from the day and scene but didn´t upload it....

The only examples of something similar I have are two solitary rowers:
And a solitary cow:
@pwallis The little guy is no stranger indeed :-)
