I am absolutely amazed and humbled to have been chosen the winner of the B&W technology challenge. I really was not sure how my slightly (very?) controversial interpretation of technology in farming would be taken and so am delighted to have won this challenge. Especially since I am very sure that everyone who submitted was capable, if not more, of winning this challenge.
Big thanks to Annie Metcalfe, @blueace, for hosting the black and white technology challenge and to everyone who entered and voted.
The next challenge will focus on a technique that, while may be old hat to some, will be new to others. It is those who are not familiar with this technique that this challenge is aimed at.
Low key photography is an excellent challenge for both the experienced and newbie. A low key image is one that contains predominately dark tones to create a moody, dramatic look. While a studio set-up complete with lights is nice to have, it is not necessary. Neither is a fancy DSLR. Successful low key shots can be achieved with a simple point and shoot or camera phone with natural light.
This challenge starts now, August 6, and will run until Sunday, August 20 at midnight, New York/Toronto time.
The usual rules will apply in that the photos must be taken and posted within the time frame of the competition. Please tag your photos bw-17 and also include in your commentary whether you are new to this technique or experienced with it.
Last but not least, please link your photos down below to keep the discussion thread visible.

excellent choice for the next challenge - i can't believe we haven't used that one already! and congrats on your win... sometimes controversy makes for the most interesting images!
Hi Wendy - I just found your challenge and realized that I had some photos which may suit - checked them on the histogram and they seemed to be low key. Hold on - not all b&w - idiot me! Anyway ( i'll play with them and see how they go as b&w.) I put them up but then realized that they were taken before 6th August. I thought I might leave them there - in their b&w state!!- for a bit longer to have a few more appearing. I'll take them down before the 20th. And try to come up with some in the correct time frame. I'm confused now - you must surely be! Cheers Rob Z
@farmreporter Thanks Wendy - the b&w version were pretty uninteresting - so I'll just leave them as they are and try to come up with something better. Thanking you - Cheers Rob
Not confused at all ... understood every word!
Looking forward to seeing the new ones!
Well done to you both! Excellent low key shots.
