Tui by dkbarnett

Tui

I went for an early morning walk while staying on Stewart Island and managed to shoot this Tui.
What an interesting bird - those white feathers around hid neck line are fascinating. Is that some sort of white lump on the front of his neck?

Great shot - he does look a bit grumpy though. @robz the white on his neck are feathers. The tui is also known as the parson bird.

@robz Thanks Rob, Dianne explained what the white on his neck is. They don't really look like feathers in this photo do they?
@dide Haha he does look a bit grumpy!! Must have been a bit early in the morning!
@hermann Very unique!
@happypat Sometimes in the right light they can look love with their iridescent feathers!
@chikadnz I agree, the Tui song is beautiful!
@eudora Thanks Diane :-)

@dide @dkbarnett Thanks Diane for your explanation - as Delwyn said - they didn't look like feathers - more like a little ball. Very interesting. I assume they help him attract the ladies?
