2016.03.02: Our day began with sunny skies and a brisk breeze, but with each passing hour it grew colder and darker as a cold storm front approached. Noticing that my feeders were empty, I ventured outdoors to refill them all.
I had barely gotten back indoors when I looked out the window and saw that quite a crowd of birds had gathered and were devouring their lunch at the feeder! As soon as these birds in the photo grabbed a few bites, other birds came to take their place!
I just bought some suet to feed my birds, besides the seeds in the feeders. So far, not one bird has tried to eat it!! I hope it is found pretty soon!! I have it hanging from a tree limb, maybe I need to put it on a platform for them to stand on? Will let you know how it goes, but maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong! FAV!
@cashew It is frustrating how long it takes them to warm up to a new food supply! My birds are picky eaters, too -- I quit putting food out in summer because they wouldn't even visit my buffet once the weather turns warm. I finally got them to start eating from my suet feeder by putting some shelter nearby (a small brush pile underneath it) and hanging a pot near it that was filled with clippings from some of my evergreens ...This makes them feel safe and gives them something on which to perch while reaching the suet feeder! I am looking forward to seeing pics of your birds once they find your feeder!
@dsp2 Great idea!! I looked out this morning and my husband had moved it to on top of one of the feeders and now they are eating it! Of course it will get rained on that way, but at least they are eating it!! I'm going to try your idea on the tree and see how that works!
