This is Alfie… he is a rescue hedgehog which we met today at the 'Springtime Safari' at Orleans House in Richmond. It was a lovely day and as Mum is visiting, we walked along the Thames footpath and then took the little ferry across the river to Orleans House.
As part of the children's nature trail, a lady from the hedgehog rescue centre came along with a number of hedgehogs including some that have been injured who sadly can never be released back into the wild and others that were too small to hibernate last winter but will be released later this year. It is great that we have people like this who care so much for our wildlife. We would love a hedgehog for our garden but I think it may be a bit too small and there are a lot of cats in this area!
Emma, i think I may collapse from a surfeit of cuteness. Definitely a fav for me. I love, among other things, the contrast between his or her little hands and the larger human ones protectively holding him (or her). I agree, it's wonderful that there are people and groups to care for wildlife.
