Friday was a bad day to see the solar eclipse in Teddington and London but it turned into a rather good day in the end. We had a very busy day today - I delivered greeting cards to my new three branches of Waterstones, we bought more kit for our trip to South America later in the year and we made our way over to Woolwich to view and collect my birthday present that Colin had commissioned to be made by a friend who is a glass craftsperson. I have got a beautiful stained glass and gilded panel based on a photograph I took of a gondola in Venice - this will be a 365 photo when properly hung at home. This is the view just across from the back of her workshop - the tide is running high and the barrier will be raised tomorrow.
As we made our way back on the bus to North Greenwich, I received a phone call from British Airways to let me know that from over 20,000 photo entries I have been selected as one of 10 people to be flown to a destination in Europe to shoot a new advert for BA with another professional photographer and 'crew'! What a way to end the day and I get to take my photographic assistant Colin with me (well - I need a tripod carrier) and will be spending Easter in Venice!
Our first day will be spent on the shoot itself and I'm on my own as the other winners will be off to other locations. Ultimately the images will be used for an ad campaign and could even appear on the side of buses. What a very strange coincidence based on the present that Colin had designed!
More packing to do… this is such a good day - definitely needed the celebratory Nandos when we got back to Teddington!
I think the slight yellow tinge is actually due to the high levels of pollution in the city at the moment.
CONCRATULATIONS EMMA! I know caps are supposed to be rude but in this case they are meant to add emphasis. I am so thrilled that you have won this! Colin's birthday present also sounds thrilling--how thoughtful he is. Can't wait to see your pictures of the glass hanging.
@tristansmum Thank you so much. I appreciate the capitals! I was so amazed, I was trying to be quiet as I answered my phone when we were on a bus and I know I get annoyed when other people are loud! My glass panel is lovely, handmade glass and leaded with some silver gilt for the metal bit on the gondola (ferro?). I hope it is gradually warming up in Toronto - I can still see ice in some of your images! x
Congratulations Emma! I have just seen this! I was wondering what you were talking about and now I find you have won this great prize! Have we seen your winning entry? What an exciting Easter you will be having! I can't wait to hear all about it and to see your photos. That is if you are allowed to use your shots? Will BA allow you to use them? Good luck anyway and have a fab trip!
