The day has arrived and I have not been looking forward to it although having said that, my 50th birthday was very nice. I was instructed not to come downstairs until allowed and when I was allowed there was a cake with candles (I had seen that being made yesterday) and multiple balloons and stacks of presents.
My main gift from Colin is our trip next week to Lapland in Finland but despite that he had some other pressies as well. I have got not one but three VIP experiences at Longleat of close up views of Giant Anteaters, penguins and Aardvarks. I got breakfast china and a hamster bracelet from Sophie and Isabelle and a beautiful art piece from Hester featuring miniature prints of objects from around the word. She also gave me a cowry necklace and earrings (it’s a family legend thing). Washington hamster had made it to the shops for salted caramel truffles and Mum had made me an entire pack which culminated in a helicopter trip to be taken over Cornwall and beauty treatments - brilliant.
After croissants and tea we headed up town to the Natural History Museum as I always like to see the annual wildlife photographer of the year exhibition. This year I thought it was very good and more creative than in past years.
In the evening Colin had booked a table at Buenos Aires steak restaurant in Richmond. I wanted to go but was worried about the quality of steaks. No need to worry as they were delicious and perfectly ‘not cooked’ blue in my case. All washed down with a bottle of Malbec.
So, not being good being 50 but a really lovely day - cheers from me!
