16th May 2019

A bit of a change today as I am my friend Sarah’s ‘plus one’ at an awards ceremony that she has been nominated for up in Coventry. She was supposed to be accompanied by a work colleague who couldn’t make it at the last moment so I was happy to come along. She had booked me a hotel room and for the train tickets.

We met at Raynes Park and it was a good journey up to Euston where we were forced to purchase mojitos and giant pretzels from M&S for the journey ‘Diane Abbott style’!

The hotel was nice and despite being on a main road had great views over the golf course so pity Colin wasn’t there. It was a good room as well with lots of space for just one person (and Gulliver bear!).

The awards pre drinks started at 6.30pm (we managed to scrounge two glasses of prosecco each) and we both scrubbed up very well. This is Sarah pre awards. We didn’t know anyone when we arrived but were seated on a hood table and by the end of the evening we had exchanged numbers and details with the couple next to us. Sarah did not win the category but did really well to be shortlisted from entrants across the country.

After the ceremony and three course meal with complimentary wine and DJ appeared but had not quite judged the evening right and the music hammered out. We showed our age at this point as we retired back to my room for a cup of tea and to watch Question Time - that’s how we oldsters rock!!
