Our last morning in Amsterdam but as we did not have to leave until after two in the afternoon we took our time packing in the morning before checking out at 11.00am, leaving our cases to be looked after by our hotel.
We had plans and headed straight back to the excellent pancake shop in the Jordan district we had visited a couple of days ago and basically enjoyed a repeat of exactly the same pancakes we had ordered before - that’ll be sliced apple and cinnamon for me and lemon and sugar for Colin with two cafe lattés!
We pottered the canals again before heading back to the hotel for the final time. This occasion we asked Gerrit (our favourite chatty concierge!) to order us a taxi to the train station which was a lot better than our journey when we arrived. Unfortunately I couldn’t stretch to an upgrade on the way back but the journey was just as good despite the stop in Brussels to change trains and we had a forward facing table with nobody sat opposite.
Needless to say, the moment we got to London it started going downhill as the lift was out of service at Vauxhall so we had to haul our cases up the stairs and when we arrived at Teddington, for some reason we did not take a taxi home. The journey is short but towing two suitcases through the autumn leaves with them catching up in their wheels was not a good experience and it definitely took the edge of our journey. We were welcomed back by the flapping plastic on next doors loft conversion and the peace and quiet of our apartment in Amsterdam is now just a memory of of the past. Sydney Hamster seemed pleased to see me.
