2 years and 3 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020
This is our departure day for our two stage journey to Tromso. Our first flight to Oslo was not until 15.40 so as we had the apartment until midday we had a leisurely morning packing, stripping the beds and having a clean around the place. It has been a really nice stay and the apartment is brilliantly located, quiet and with plenty of space. I popped out to get rid of the rubbish using a special key fob that opens massive recycling chutes near our apartment.
We left just before midday and trundled our cases back down the hill. It was a lot quicker than coming and the morning rain had stopped as well. A tram arrived quickly and it was an uneventful journey to the airport. We also used the bus tickets from yesterday as they had not been activated so a money saving there! We have a bigger weight allowance so no problems there. Fingers crossed our luggage makes it on the transfer at Oslo to our second plane to Tromso!
A relative painfree transfer at Oslo onto our next plane to Tromso. I am so glad I wore my Craghopper ski trousers and as usual my thick coat. Although it was dark as we approached in the plane I could see the amount of snow on the ground. Our luggage made it all the way which was the first relief. Despite a bus going to close to where our apartment is located, I insisted on a taxi and the queue did not take too long to clear in front of us. So much for ‘not much snow’ as our host told us - there seems a lot to me. We arrived (in thick snow) to our apartment and after a slippery slope with cases I managed to gain entry using the key code to a lovely warm apartment. It is more ‘homely’ than our last place in Bergen but the view (in the dark) looks impressive over the city.
There were supplies in the fridge but unfortunately no milk. We resigned ourselves to no cup of tea as we had hoped although Colin did try a black tea. I was Goggling supermarkets for tomorrow when I spotted a Co-op within a ten minute walk that didn’t close until 11.00pm (most are totally shut on Sundays).
We (or I) made the snap decision to go and get supplies and we set off in incredibly thick snow and temperatures of around -4. We found the supermarket with the same sky high prices but I didn’t care as we bought milk and some snacks to keep us going and then slid our way back. An interesting start to our stay in Tromso.
