Today I dropped off prints for my exhibition next week at the London Photo festival and took advantage of lunch at Borough Market afterwards... Mmmm.

Borough Market is positively buzzing at weekends and this is the main walkway between the more traditional food market and the Green Market where most of the food stalls are. I really wanted to show the mass of people and liveliness of the market so I attempted a slow exposure (+1 second) whilst bracing myself again the recycling bins - very glamourous!

What caught my eye was the fact that there was a homeless person sitting still to the right of the image and all the movement around him, along with a man waiting for someone and a couple in the middle who were looking for a particular stall.

I took a number of photos and this is a bit 'soft' as I didn't use a tripod. It was also rather hit and miss as to what the people looked like - better to have people walking towards or away from me rather than across for the best effect. I'll give this another go sometime as I really enjoyed it.

@barrowlane Thanks Rob, I really enjoy this sort of photography but have been so busy with prepping images from SE Asia for stock that I have had to resort to macro and rather 'straight' photographs recently. Its a great market, impossible not to nibble the samples whilst wandering around!

I think this worked out well. I like the contrast between the suggested motion of the people visiting the market, and the stillness of the homeless person and also of the old brick wall which looks as if it's been there, motionless and permanent, for a very long time. Some things are ephemeral; some things (unfortunately in the case of homelessness) are always with us.

@tristansmum You are so right, the market is set under railway arches that date from the 1880's and although the market itself is quite affluent (or at least the visitors have to be) there is a big divide between visitors and some of the locals.

@nicolaeastwood Its really fun as you never quite know what the final images will be like. Bring a polariser as I had to drop ISO to 100 and up the f stop to 22 to try and slow the speed down!
