So, our fourth visit to the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park. We went specifically to try and photograph the woodpeckers as we had heard the chicks cheeping on our last visit. This morning I spent an hour and a half sat in brambles and ferns (forgot the insect repellent) - ten minutes in and my canvas stool broke so the remaining time was a bit uncomfortable!
However, although this is not the best wildlife photograph I am quite pleased. The parents visited about once every twenty minutes or so and at first the tree was in direct sunlight and then intermittent shade so I constantly had to change the settings. Used my Giotto tripod, 70-200mm f/2.8 lens with x2 Canon adapter and remote release. I put a few more pics on FB along with some Mandarin ducklings if you are interested.
@barrowlane Thanks Rob, I'm not known for my patience and I truly admire proper wildlife photographers! @maggiemae ha! ha! The hole is very big and its probably not a coincidence that this is actually a dead tree, about 10 foot hight (Silver Birch I think) right next to a footpath.
The bird is magnificent in all its beautiful plumage caught so clearly by your camera. It is doing a great job. But I also love all the textures - the bark peeling, the bits and pieces hanging out of the woodpecker's beak, his feathers. Beautiful!
