Houston's wealthy Hogg family lived for years on their estate, Bayou Bend, then donated it to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts which operates it as part of their museum. The docent told us that Miss Ima had a good sense of humor (probably necessary for someone named Ima Hogg) and decorated her garden with light-hearted art like this chicken as well as classical marble statues. She also assured us that this is carefully stored and only brought outside for special occasions.
Oh my- talk about "cursing" your child with a horrible name. That's as bad as the boy in my high school whose name was Cliff Edge. At least she grew up to have good taste in art!
Up to a couple of years ago our national football (soccer) team's goalkeeper has Hogg as his surname. Not a common surname here. Who knows, he could be a relative to the owners. Very interesting story and a lovely capture.
Lovely shot.
