OK, I'm out of my comfort zone here: I got the Holga lens to give a vintage feeling to my old-house photos. But all my shots of flowers lately have been done better by someone else (or by myself last year) so I experimented with the Holga lens. I'd appreciate your feedback.
Thanks for looking at my photos and for all your comments and favs.
I'm probably not the best to comment -- mainly since we don't have flowers yet so I haven't taken any. But, I do like the look the Holga lens gave this flower. It has a dreamy look to it which sets it apart from others.
I've only seen this as an effect on Picnik, so as a lens it's new to me. So take this just as my opinion. Although I think the dark edges make the flower stand out somewhat, since it's a deeper color iris, it looks dark altogether to me and I think I'd like a little more light. I sort of light the way the flower stands apart, but at the same time I don't really see any others (just vaguely in the background) so it doesn't look "natural" to me (if that makes sense). I'm just undecided about the shot. Perhaps I just want more detail and clarity on the flower. Sorry this doesn't make much sense!
@olivetreeann Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Ann. I think you are right--the photo is a too dark. I think I'll save my Holga lens for old houses!
@eudora It would probably work well with antique tools and such too. Anything that would do well in black and white with contrast and texture. Just my thought.
I think your shot has a dreamy look. I don't know exactly what you were trying to accomplish, but the iris is in focus. As for my crocus macro yesterday, I am not accustomed to using the LCD monitor for focusing the subject. I found it difficult to do under the conditions. It was a good experience giving another camera a try. I joined the 365 to learn and I guess that's what I'm doing. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your opinion with me, Diane.
